The Netherlands is one of the most popular travel destinations for Germans. The flat country with its beautiful landscapes and seemingly endless sandy beaches offers travelers pure nature and cultural highlights. A varied stay is guaranteed, especially with a motorhome, caravan or tent.

The climatic conditions in the Netherlands are also ideal for traveling with a dog. They are temperate maritime and therefore have mild temperatures in winter and bearable temperatures in summer. That’s good news for all pelt-noses who want to get a taste of the country with their masters and enjoy long walks and extensive play on the sandy beach!

Camping with a dog in the Netherlands

Our neighboring country is generally considered to be very dog-friendly. From October to April, dogs are allowed to roam free on most beaches in Holland and the other provinces. There are also plenty of dog beaches:

In the high season in summer, dogs are also allowed in many places – but there are certain rules that vary from region to region, such as compulsory use of a lead. What owners should know, however, is that in addition to the rabies vaccination, a pet passport is mandatory when entering the country. The dog must also be identified with a microchip.

Camping Valkenburg – Maastricht

Camping Valkenburg – Maastricht is located in the middle of the unique green idyll of the province of Limburg, less than two kilometers from the beautiful town of Valkenburg and only 15 km from Maastricht.

Not far from the A79 Maastricht – Heerlen highway, the site offers a meadow area with many trees, which is bordered by hedges. Fields and numerous wooded areas around the site offer plenty of space for long walks for people and dogs.

Camping Twee Bruggen

This campsite is probably best known to visitors of the camping outfitter Obelink. This is because it is very close to the huge store, where not only newcomers like to go into a veritable shopping frenzy. But the charming village of Winterswijk is a worthwhile destination even without a golden credit card.

Camping De Twee Bruggen is ideal for dog owners. As on most campsites, four-legged friends must be kept on a lead on the site. But the surrounding area offers plenty of space for walking and running around: There are great walking trails for hours of rambling through the surrounding country park and lush woodland. Dogs are also allowed to run and swim freely at the nearby lakes in the low season from October 1 to May 1.

Vacation park Beerze Bulten

Vacation park Beerze Bulten is a 5-star vacation park and family campsite in the province of Overijssel. It is located in the middle of the beautiful nature of the Vechtdal, directly on the River Vechte, and is surrounded by numerous hiking and cycling trails.

Dogs are welcome and there is a special area for them and their owners. From there, the neighboring forests can be reached very quickly and offer space for beautiful walks. Animal guests are also welcome in the on-site brasserie.

Camping De Pallegarste

De Pallegarste is a campsite that welcomes dogs with open arms and was even awarded the title of ‘Most dog-friendly campsite in the Netherlands’ in 2023. There is a specially demarcated area where your four-legged friend can romp around to their heart’s content.

There are seats for you along a paved path where you can relax while your dog lets off steam. If your dog gets a little dirty after playing outside, a special dog shower is available to get him clean again. In addition to the option of camping with your dog, you can also rent accommodation.

Dogs are welcome in the spacious chalets and the safari tent as well as in the special glamping lodges. All you have to do is state at the time of booking that you are bringing a pet and keep the dog on a lead on the rest of the premises.

Camping Innerdyun

Camping Innerduyn in is a small, adults-only campsite in the province of Zeeland, surrounded by a beautiful nature reserve and its own farmland. The dunes, the beach and the charming seaside town of Zoutelande are within easy walking distance.

At the car-free and sustainable campsite, you will find spacious pitches, modern and clean sanitary facilities, free Wi-Fi and even a dog run. There is also a store with regional products and a bread roll service.

Ardoer Camping Tempelhof

Located in the North Holland seaside resort of Callantsoog, this 5-star campsite in a rural setting offers a flat meadow area rounded off by numerous hedges. Not only sports-loving campers and families with children get their money’s worth here, but also those who prefer peace and quiet with their four-legged friends.

The dog-friendly campsite has a dog shower and the coast is just 1.6 kilometers from the campsite for walks on the beach.

Molecaten Park Wijde Blick

Camping Wijde Blick is located near Renesse on Schouwen-Duiveland in the province of Zeeland. The spacious vacation park in the hinterland has a flat meadow area to offer. The parking spaces are horticulturally divided by hedges, trees and ditches. High rows of trees surround the area.

From here it is only two kilometers to the extensive beach. There are walking trails around the campsite for your walks. And if your four-legged friend gets dirty, there is a dog shower on the pitch.

Vakantiepark de Zeeuwse Parel

Camping Vakantiepark De Zeeuwse Parel is also located in picturesque Zeeland, just a few meters from the beach.

On the one hand, it borders the beautiful landscape of De Pluimpot nature reserve and the Oosterschelde, so you can take your four-legged friend for a wonderful walk. On the other hand, the cities of Bergen op Zoom, Roosendaal and Antwerp are not far away if you feel like getting a taste of the city air.

Vakantiepark ‘t Urkerbos

The hospitable campsite Vakantiepark ‘t Urkerbos in the province of Flevoland is located right next to the forest. The center of Urk, a lively and characteristic fishing village, and the harbor of the former Zuiderzee island are only a 10-minute walk away. The grounds are spacious and green, where people and dogs can feel at ease and relax.

Hikes through the forests and wetlands are just as much an option here as long walks on the beach.

Camping Erkemederstrand

Also in Flevoland, but not far from Amsterdam, is the Erkemederstrand campsite. The area is divided in two by a cycle path and presents itself as a flat meadow on the Nuldernauw, a so-called marginal sea of the Markermeer. Rows of deciduous trees and strips of meadow round off the area, where dogs are welcome.

There is plenty of space here to take your furry friend for a walk on the dyke or in the forest or to play on the 1.5-kilometer-long dog beach.

Camping t Séleantsje

Camping t Séleantsje, located in Friesland near the village of Molkwerum, is situated directly on the Ijsselmeer. Bordered by two canals, there is a flat meadow area divided by low plantings.

Dog lovers and their four-legged friends can enjoy a wide range of leisure activities here: Whether it’s a walk on the sea dyke on the Ijsselmeer, from which you can enjoy a breathtaking view, or a hike through the “Gaasterland Forest”, which is only about 10 kilometers away – people and dogs get their money’s worth here.

Camping Lansbulten

The province of Gelderland near the German border is one of the most beautiful regions in Holland. Lansbulten campsite is located here, just 1.4 kilometers from the picturesque village of Aalten. The surrounding area is ideal for long walks with your four-legged friend and if you fancy a breath of city air, visit the fortress and book town of Bredevoort, which is just three kilometers away.

The overnight stay for your four-legged friend costs 3 euros at this quiet campsite.

Duinpark en Camping De Robbenjager

Duinpark en Camping De Robbenjager, which is very popular with dog owners, is located in the middle of the dunes on the island of Texel in North Holland. From the lighthouse, which is just a few meters away from the campsite, visitors can enjoy a fantastic view of the sea.

The Duinen van Texel National Park has plenty to offer people and their four-legged friends: Walks through the sand dunes, fun and games on the beach – every dog’s heart will beat faster.

The campsite, where a maximum of one dog per pitch is allowed, has its own dog shower. This is a good idea if your four-legged friend’s coat has become dirty from playing in the sand and sea.
