I have thought about trying my hand at insurance sales for a long time but it is scary coming from the claims side to not know what your commission will be!"A 10-year insurance claims adjuster posted this comment. Told her that I'd post about the challenges she’d face to make the switch to become a producer. About the big upside and some risks and pain too.So here goes.Today, I'll post about the second of three big challenges that an an insurance claims adjuster faces to become an insurance producer:#2: Selling insurance has far less to do with your technical insurance knowledge than your sales skills. Yes, insurance is a technical product. But the buyer doesn't choose their agent (producer) based on technical insurance knowledge. They buy from who they know, like and trust the most. Getting a prospect to fire their current agent (producer) and hire you is harder than you think it will be.#insurance #insuranceindustry #sales

Bold statement for an insurance person:I am not a natural salesperson, the sales aspects of my job do not come naturally to me. However: - I run things full steam through the endzone. - I relentlessly work for the people the depend on me.- I study and work on policy wording to make sure I handle things in the right way.- I call claims reps bosses when the claims adjuster isnt being responsive- I call my marketing reps and underwriters to go over increases- I tell my underwriters when an insurance account is theirs at $_____, so i can quote one company, and move on, with a few additional improvements.- I know the markets pretty thoroughly, and what i dont know i will find out, and quickly - I take it as a challenge when Im the 7th agent theyve called, and no one has been able to help them- I love being the person to pick up the weird odds and ends, that might be too involved for someone else to find worth it- A lot of my referrals come from other agents because they know I wont take the lines they have themselves- I answer the phone - I can explain a lot of complex things in simple ways, sparing details when just someone doesnt care honestly- I can take the answer of no, or not now, because sometimes insurance isnt always the number one talking point. But, I'd rather be a sucky salesperson and the insurance agent I would want in my corner any day.

After several months of watching brokers in the market posting on LinkedIn rubbishing other brokers work, I felt the need to post a response for all the Professional Chartered Insurance Brokers out there that do a great job and have a close working relationship with their clients. Insurance should not be based solely on premium, it’s based-on an individuals knowledge, their business awareness and working closely with a client to be a part of their team and for it not be a transactional piece of work.Rather than trying to rubbish your competitors, why not focus your efforts on generating your own leads based on your experience, knowledge, and business acumen. Develop a trusted network of clients and associates that you can refer to and pass business to, creating your future pipeline without the need to rubbish our industry.Feeling proud to be a Chartered Insurance Broker amb Insurance Services Ltd
