Later, he would escape theclutches of the Nazis and settle in Brooklyn where he revived the cause ofChabad-Lubavitch. The Rebbe wouldlaunch, what would become under his son-in-law who was the Seventh LubavitcherRebbe, one of history’s most successful Jewish outreach programs.

1946: The Mayor’sCommittee on Unity headed by Charles Evans Hughes, Jr. recommended to that theBoard of Regents conduct an investigation “into racial and religiousdiscrimination in the admission of students to intuitions of higher learning…” The committee contended that “there could notlong be any reasonable doubt that racial and religious discrimination waspracticed by” colleges and universities “in New York and elsewhere” usuallythrough the employment of some kind of quota system. According to the committee’s findings, thisdiscrimination is directed at “Jewish, Negro, Catholic and Italianstudents.” While Medical Schools seem tobe the prime practitioners of this discriminatory behavior, “it exists in othergraduate and undergraduate schools as well.”
