Bubblepalooza:,From 2-3 p.m., on Thursday, July 11, at the Trenton Veterans Memorial Library. Children explore how bubbles form, as well as how to make bubble solutions and bubble wands. Younger kiddos will make bubble paintings while older children will construct giant bubble wands to see who can leverage surface tension to blow the biggest bubble! Crosswinds Marsh Nature Walk: Taylor Community Library, Taylor. June 25, from 2-3 p.m. Join Jennifer from Crosswinds Marsh on a nature walk around our very own Cone Lake to learn about the native and invasive species that live among us. We will start in our community room where patrons will get a chance to meet a snake, a turtle, and touch bones and pelts of animals native to Michigan. After that we will venture outside to take a walk around the lake to view the wildlife. This event is geared towards families, but is all ages. Basic Creative Writing Class: Taylor Community Library, Taylor. June 25, from 2:30-3:30 p.m. This class is for those interested in writing, but are not sure how to start. You will get to practice writing without stopping, how to start a scene and what’s needed between scenes, discover ways to outline and see what works for you, character development, and gain tips on writing dialogue. Author and paranormal researcher Amberrose Hammond will take you on a strange and fun journey into Michigan’s supernatural past through ghosts, legends, monsters and more as she discusses her latest book, “Mysterious Michigan.” Hammond has been researching the supernatural, weird, and off-beat history of Michigan for over twenty years. Intro to 3D Printing: Bookmarks is Thursday, July 11, at 5 p.m. Interested in 3D printing or design? Come check out our Makerspace’s 3D printer. We will be using the free and easy-to-use TinkerCAD to create your custom bookmarks. Our staff will guide you through the process of using TinkerCAD, where you will learn how to add text, shapes, and other details to the design before it is printed out. Registration required. Kristin’s Cozy Craft Corner is Thursday, June 27 and July 25, at 4 p.m. Crocheters and knitters of all skill levels and ages are invited to join our monthly club. Kristin will focus on a new topic each month. Adult programs: Sandwich Bread is Tuesday, July 9, at 1 p.m. Explore bread making and learn some basic techniques to start your baking journey. Learn about yeast, kneading, and what goes into a loaf of bread. This program involves flour, so participants should dress accordingly. Family Adventure: At the Bacon Memorial District Library, 45 Vinewood, Wyandotte. Family Program: This is a close encounter with live animals. Learn about each creature as they crawl, walk, and slither in front of you. Registration Required. The Thrill of the Water Slide is Thursday, June 27 at 1 p.m. Cool off on the Super Cliffhanger. This water-slide / slip-n-slide combo is 28-foot-tall and 65-foot long. Wear your bathing suit or shorts and t-shirt without any sharp objects. Bring a towel. This event will be held outside. This event is not recommended for young children unless a parent will be sliding with their child. Registration is required. Buried Alive in Foam is Thursday, July 18 at 1 p.m. The Mad Foamer is back to host another foam party on the front lawn of the Bacon Library. Bring a towel and prepare to be covered in foam. Roller Coaster Fun: From 3-4 p.m. on Thursday, June 27, at the Trenton Veterans Memorial Library. A STEM Challenge with Miss Ashley! Which team can make the tallest, most fantastical, most realistic, scariest, and/or most unexpected roller coaster that is capable of depositing a ping-pong ball in a bowl using only an assortment of craft supplies? Your team will have 60 minutes to build your roller coaster before Miss Ashley checks to see if the ping-pong ball makes it down the tracks. For Children ages 5 to 12. Registration Required. Rage Room: Taylor Public School Education Foundation Hosting a rage room at the Taylor Festival on June 29 at Heritage park. Take your frustrations out and relieve your stress by beating up on a car. The event goes from 1-6 p.m. You can donate $1 and get one hit, or $5 and get three hits. Tiny Art Show: Nature Edition: Pick up your canvases from the library through July 5. This Summers theme will be Nature! You can create your painting with nature (sticks, mud, leaves, flowers, etc.) or you can create a nature scene. Summer Reading 2024: All Ages. This summer we will be going on a National Park Adventure. You will be searching for a Forest Adventure (0-7) or a Cryptid Adventure (this program is for everyone 5 and older.) The program has two components: 1. Read to earn bacon bucks to be used at our Summer Reading Store, Aug. 6-12. 2. Each week you will be virtually visiting a new National Park. Once you arrive, you will find your new animal or Cryptid. You can just collect the virtual cards, or come into the library to receive the Animal or Cryptid Trading Card for that week. There are extra missions that can be earned anytime. Sewing for Jesus: Come join us and help make dresses for girls in need worldwide. Even if you do not sew, you can come and cut bias tape that is sewn around the armhole of the dresses. We meet at Evangel Baptist Church, 16994 Telegraph, Taylor, MI on Mondays from 10:30 a.m. – 2:30 p.m. Even if you can only come for a couple hours, we would love to see you. Stay Sharp Kits & Pet Companions: At the Trenton Veterans Memorial Library. Stay Sharp Kits are a wonderful resource for adults (and the caregivers of adults) who are experiencing memory loss and other cognitive issues related to dementia, Alzheimer’s disease, and other memory disorders. These themed kits are filled with a variety of materials and activities that have been designed to promote cognitive skills. Some activities focus more on conversation and socializing, others on motor skills and critical thinking. Well-Read Wanderers: At the Trenton Veterans Memorial Library. A Book Club for 3rd-, 4th-, & 5th-graders. Meets on the 3rd Saturday of every month from 10:30-11:30 a.m. Every month we will meet to discuss and start reading a new book. We will learn some of the basic elements of a book (i.e. plot, characters etc.), so that we have a greater understanding of what we read. Meals on Wheels Drivers Needed: The Senior Alliance has partnered with the Wayne County Department of Senior Services to discover what drives you to volunteer and meet an immediate need for volunteer drivers for Meals on Wheels. The Senior Alliance, Area Agency on Aging 1-C, is a pivotal nonprofit organization in Michigan providing vital services to aging adults and adults with disabilities. Taylor Garden Club: Meets the 3rd Thursday of the month September through June. Meetings are held at the Taylor Senior Activity Center. Huron River Fishing Association: General meetings are held the first Monday of each month at 6:30 p.m. in the Flat Rock Community Center, 1 McGuire St. in Flat Rock. The general meetings include seminars and speakers related to river fishing, fly fishing, ecological concerns and environmental concerns. Crafters Welcome: Crafters meet every Thursday from 10-11:45 a.m. in the social hall of St. Cyprian Catholic Church on Pennsylvania Rd, Riverview. We knit, crochet and sew a variety of items such as hats and scarves for all ages, baby items, lap blankets, quilts, stuffed toys, dishcloths, and adult bibs just to name a few to donate to local groups who support those in need such at our veterans, soup kitchen clients, a local hospice and the homeless.

American Flag Disposal: Heart to Heart Hospice of Southgate is a local site for American Flag disposal. From 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday through Friday, Heart to Heart will allow the general public to bring their tired and worn American flags to our Southgate office. Genealogy Research: The Downriver Genealogical Society Library, located at 28639 Division Street in Flat Rock, is free and open for genealogy research Tuesdays from 9 a.m. – 1 p.m. and Thursdays from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The society began in 1980 and for the past 42 years has been collecting information on the people and cities of the downriver communities, most taken from local newspapers. There are also resources from the surrounding areas and for other states and other countries. Volunteers are available to help those wanting to begin researching their own family. Activities that clients might enjoy are being read to, watching television together, talking about who and where they’ve been, their families, hearing about your day, playing cards, and so much more.
