  • Newcomer:

    Eleanor Amoroso

  • Inspired by dramatic contemporary design, she has developed herown unique technique of making garments from long lengths offringing and using macram techniques to create innovative knits. She has both reinvented and modernised an ancient craft, which shewill continue to develop with her brand. Every piece is entirelymade by hand and not machine, so no wonder her work has previouslybeen described as commemoration of the forgotten art ofcraftsmanship. We had the chance to catch up with her and she gaveus an insight in her work, inspiration and idols.

  • wardrobe inspection: basic appeal//by Kat Ober

Blogger rookie Stevie-Rose has my envy just for having suchstraight forward, capsule wardrobe. The 18 year old Liverpudliangirl already pin-pointed her signature look and rocks the minimalstyle. You wont see wild patterns or bold colours on her bloginstead a quite monochrome look that focusses a lot more on the cutthan on the prints. A welcome change to the usual blogger look, which is why we asked her to take part in our Wardrobe Insightfeature.

Instead of orientating herself by a style icon she findsinspiration on street style blogs such as Hoy Boutique and otherwebsites. Having recently finished her graphic design course she isdreaming of a minimal apartment in Paris and writing for a fashionmagazine. Her signature look with a boyish twist consists ofoversized blazers, skinny crop trousers, shirts, really oversizedt-shirts, tote bags and cuffs. Check yourself how chic a simple aspossible wardrobe can look like!

Each of their photographs perfectlydisplays their influences but even if it is the same model each ofthe photos seems to tell a different story keep on reading if youwant to know how they got into photography in the first place andwhere they find inspiration.

  • Little online publications and printed zines are seeming tofight the overall opinion that print is dead and news andinformation will in future only be publicized via quick socialmedia solutions, like blogs and twitter. Instead, it looks likethere is more and more creative people out there who use theplatform, the internet provides, to publish their very own take ona magazine as well as to promote the latter. The first person weinterviewed on this subject is Victoria Jin, who recentlyre-located from Austria to England and who is probably one of theor the pioneers of Austrian Independent online fashion magazinepublishing if not that, shes the best. DaskleineSchwarze

Print has been proclaimed dead and the sales figures onlyunderline this statement. For some reason though independentpublications seem to flourish no matter if online or offline asprinted zines. What is a zine though and what drives people topublish those?Well, first of all a zine is designed for a verylimited target audience, and usually distributed on a small scale. The term itself is short for magazine. A zine is often regarded asa news organ of an underground community and had its climax in the70s when the counterculture was at its peak but also in the 90salong the riot grrrl movement.Frock&Roll had the chance to havea q&a with the two publishers, Maximilian Huber & LucasGerstgrasser, of Austrian zine Das Kleine Schwarze which shines alight on Viennese and Austrian underground culture.

  • No one expected The Horrors to stick around long when they firstreleased Jack The Ripper and the like back in 2005 they were mainlyknown for their big hair and skinny skeleton legs. But then therewas Primary Colours something which probably has come as quite ashock to the vast majority of people, who dismissed the band fromSouthend-on-Sea during their initial hype-fuelled rise, and evenraked a Mercury Award nomination for themselves. And then there wasSkying a pure masterpiece. Most certainly the album that channeledthe vibe of 2011 the best -

plaintive and somber. Lyrics that are far from the ones of thehyped bands of 2011, The Vaccines or Viva Brother intense and vagueat the same time. Who would have expected The Horrors creating andbrooding over a song like Still Life back in 2007? Well, yet theykept on arranging fierce and noir undertones throughout and manageto categorically cataloguing a lifetime of influences. Even thoughin our interview Faris Badwan, the lead singer, didnt seem to betoo keen of giving us an insight into those. We think theinfluences of musicians are interesting,

    52 frock&roll.

  • no matter if they might draw influences of cartoons whilstsitting on the toilet or if they like the sound of a 90s Gameboygame as interested listeners we like to get to know about thosethings, we might discover new music and in the end Faris gave usonly a little hint on his influences. But for a person that acteddeep there was quite some intractability to answer questions thatwould have enabled us to look underneath the surface. For a personthat wants to be taken seriously in the music scene he tried a bittoo hard on acting the part being all up

for watching the football in the backstage room of the venue toa completely changed Faris that awaited us in the completelychaotic tour bus in his thinking posture . Focusing on his hands alot more than the flamboyant character did on our questions andsomewhat acting like he was skying. An interview with Faris Badwanseems to be doing a lot more for his ego than we might haveexpected. We had something to laugh up our sleeves anyway: Despitegiving us a hard time interviewing him, he was locked out of hisown venue laptop in hand.

Fallulah could be the love child of Lykke Li and Marina& TheDiamonds - she makes raw but confident indie pop that combines theeccentricity of Bat for Lashes, the musicality of Kate Bush and thespirit of Lykke Li, all amidst a uniqueness that makes her hugelyfresh and exciting. Already a star in her hometown of Copenhagenand native Denmark, Fallulah is ready to make her mark on the restof Europe. Fallulah leaves her own imprint on a mix of Indie rockand Balkan beats, which adds a hint of folklore to herproductions.Only 25-years-old half Dane, half Romanian and with apersonality that is sensitive, vulnerable, strong-willed anddefiant which comes out vividly in her music, Fallulah is oneexciting young lady that you should keep your eyes peeled for in2012.
